Chica’s Bag Recommendations
For Grocery Shopping:
• larger capacity than “t-shirt” style plastic bags
• sturdy sides for easy loading
• machine washable
• folds flat
• inexpensive
You can find these bags at your local grocery stores
Kroger and TomThumb sell great bags near the registers (usually 99¢)
A good online selection can be found at www.reusablebags.com
Don’t stop with grocery bags!
Chica carries a pocket size bag in her purse everywhere she goes.
For Mall Shopping:
• 20 lb capacity
• machine washable
• stuffs into small pouch for keychain or purse
The bag pictured, can be found at
www.chicobag.com for $5. This is what I use.
A thrifty version is available at Target for 99¢.
It folds into a thin wallet shape.
These bags are very convenient to carry around 24/7 but I wouldn’t recommend them for grocery shopping because they aren’t large or sturdy enough to do the trick.
Each reusable bag can replace 300-500 plastic bags.
Don’t be apprehensive about bringing your own bags. The checkers wont mind using your reusables instead of plastic. After you unload your groceries at home, I recommend hanging your reusable bags on the garage door. This will keep you from forgetting to put them back into your car. And if your bags make it into your car but you forget to take them into the store with you, no problem. Just ask the checker to place your groceries unbagged into the cart and sack them yourself back at your car.
5 of the large reusable grocery bags is usually enough for the average family load.
Canvas bags are also a good option, but they are more expensive and harder to keep clean.
